Creed (Week 6): I Believe in the Holy Spirit

The Apostles Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.

He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.

He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, one holy Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

  • God the Father - creator!   God the Son, redeemer!  God the Holy Spirit, sustainer!

  • The Holy Spirit, often referred to as the third person of the Trinity, is not merely a theological concept but a dynamic, personal force that actively engages with us in our daily lives.

The Spirit works to guide us.

  • The promise of the Holy Spirit, is a pledge made by Jesus himself.

John 14:16-17 (ESV) “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you."

The Conviction and Guidance of the Holy Spirit

  • The Holy Spirit serves as our divine guide, convicting us of sin and leading us into repentance and truth

[John 16:7 NLT] 7 But in fact, it is best for you that I go away, because if I don't, the Advocate won't come. If I do go away, then I will send him to you.

[John 16:13 NLT] 13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future.

Empowerment for Christian Living:

  • The Holy Spirit empowers believers to live victorious and fruitful lives.

[Acts 1:8 NLT] 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere--in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."

  • This divine empowerment enables us to overcome challenges, displaying spiritual fruit, and effectively share the Gospel with others in the way we live out out lives.

The Spirit empowers, equips and gifts to us “talents” for edification of the body.

[1 Corinthians 12:7 NLT] 7 A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other.

The Spirits character is what we put on display for world to see.

[Galatians 5:22-26 NLT] 22 But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things! 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there. 25 Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit's leading in every part of our lives. 26 Let us not become conceited, or provoke one another, or be jealous of one another.
